Your Love Guard Me Through The Night…

TONIGHT I Pray that you thank the Lord for all of the conditions that require you to be still.  I pray that you don’t spoil these precious quiet times between you and God, by being impatient or wishing them away. Sometimes the Lord moves mightily when you are most vulnerable.  I pray you run to Him in your weakness and rest in the comfort of the Presence of the Lord.  Take your mind off of your problems and put all of your focus on Jesus.  Never forget that He is able to do more than you can ask or even imagine.  When things are at their darkest the safest place for you to be is in His will.  I pray that you allow His Peace to settle over you, along with the Blessed assurance that He will never leave you or forsake you ever.  In Jesus name I Pray, Amen and Amen.  I Love You All!!!  God Bless You!!!♥♥♥

Word of the Day... July 31, 2015...

Only a believing Christian can testify, "I am a sinner-saved by the grace of God!" But that is not the whole story. All that we have is cut of His grace. Jesus Christ, the eternal Word who became flesh and dwelt among us, is the open channel through whom God moves to provide all the benefits He gives, both to saints and to sinners-yes, even to sinners!

Even though you may still be unconverted and going your own way, you have received much out of the ocean of His fullness. You have received the pulsing life that beats in your bosom. You have received the brilliant mind and the brain without which you could not function. You have received a memory that strings the events you cherish as a jeweler strings pearls into a necklace.

When we say to an unbelieving man, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ," we are actually saying to him: "Believe on the One who sustains you and upholds you and who has given you life. Believe in the One who pities you and spares you and keeps you. Believe on the One out of whom you came!"

I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

TONIGHT I PRAY THAT you realize that understanding will never bring you peace.  That is why the Lord Jesus asks us to trust in HIM and not lean on our own understanding.  Human beings always want to figure things out, in order to gain a sense of mastery over our own lives. That as the world presents you with these problems and another set of problems pops up to challenge you, the relief you had anticipated it short-lived. Soon your mind is gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery of your own problems), instead of seeking the Lord. I pray that the Peace of the Lord is not an elusive goal hidden at the center of some complicated maze. I pray that you realize you can have HIS Peace, which is inherent when you are in HIS Presence. As you look to the Lord Jesus you will gain awareness of HIS Precious Peace. I pray that no matter what storms may come to try and upset that balance, that you stop and affirm your trust in HIM alone. Leave everything in HIS capable hands. Through trusting prayers, resting in His sovereign control, rejoice in HIM! As you trust in him, He will watch over you continually. You are his child and HE has engraved you on the palm of His hands. I pray you realize how great you are loved! In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen… I love you all!!!...  God bless you!!!!!

Mature Living

The absence of spiritual devotion today is an omen and a portent. The modern church is all but contemptuous of the sober virtues--meekness, modesty, humility, quietness, obedience, self-effacement, patience. To be accepted now, religion must be in the popular mood. Consequently, much religious activity reeks with pride, display, self-assertion, self-promotion, love of gain and devotion to trivial pleasures.

It behooves us to take all this seriously. Time is running out for all of us. What is done must be done quickly. We have no right to lie idly by and let things take their course. A farmer who neglects his farm will soon lose it; a shepherd who fails to look after his flock will find the wolves looking after it for him. A misbegotten charity that allows the wolves to destroy the flock is not charity at all but indifference, rather, and should be known for what it is and dealt with accordingly.

It is time for Bible-believing Christians to begin to cultivate the sober graces and to live among men like sons of God and heirs of the ages. And this will take more than a bit of doing, for the whole world and a large part of the church is set to prevent it. But if God be for us, who can be against us?

When Heaven and Earth Become One
"And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, 'Look, God's home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them.'"   —Revelation 21:2–3

One day, Cathe was driving with our youngest son, Jonathan, who was then age 3. She was talking about the Rapture and how we would be caught up to heaven. The more she talked, the quieter Jonathan got. Finally, he blurted out, "Mom, I don't want to go to heaven! I don't want to leave this beautiful world that God made!" It's hard for a 3-year-old to wrap his mind around heaven.

Sometimes Christians say, "When I die I will be with the Lord forever in heaven!" While it is true that when a believer dies they go to heaven, it is not true that we stay there forever. Because one day, heaven is going to come to earth.

My friend Randy Alcorn, in his book Heaven writes, "We won't go to Heaven and leave Earth behind. Rather, God will bring Heaven and Earth together into the same dimension, with no wall of separation, no armed angels to guard Heaven's perfection from sinful mankind."

God is not going to abandon His creation; He's going to restore it! Have you ever seen a perfectly restored classic car? (Guys especially see this as a thing of beauty.) Well, God is into restoration too—restoration of lives, bodies, and even our planet!

God's perfect plan is to "bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ" (Ephesians 1:10 NIV).

Jesus will make earth into heaven and heaven into earth. Just as the wall that separates God and mankind is torn down in Jesus, so too the wall that separates heaven and earth will forever be demolished.

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

Tonight I Pray that the Lord will give you HIS peace.  I pray that you stand on your faith realizing that He is our strength and our shield and that even before we arise from our beds He is at work in our lives. The Lord is the stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who trust in Him. He loves us with an amazing all-encompassing love that is perfect!!! He will provide us with the strength that we need to move forward in our walk with Him.  I pray that whenever you start to feel afraid you hold tightly to HIS hand.  He will lead you on the road ahead and no matter how dark or foggy it may seem He knows the way!!!  He is always alert and active and He will protect us from all dangers. I pray that you put all of your trust in our good Shepherd Jesus and you can begin to rest in HIS sheltering Presence!!!  Walk in that faith!!!  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen!!! I Love You All!!!  God Bless You!!!

God Seers

When viewing the religious scene today, we are tempted to fix on one or another weakness and say, "This is what is wrong with the church. If this were corrected, we could recapture the glory of the early church and have pentecostal times back with us again."

This tendency to oversimplification is itself a weakness and should be guarded against always, especially when dealing with anything as complex as religion as it occurs in modern times. It takes a very young man to reduce all our present woes to a single disease and cure the whole thing with one simple remedy. Older and wiser heads will be more cautious, having learned that the prescribed nostrum seldom works for the reason that the diagnosis has not been correct. Nothing is that simple. Few spiritual diseases occur alone. Almost all are complicated by the presence of others and are so vitally interrelated as they spread over the whole religious body that it would take the wisdom of a Solomon to find a single cure.

For this reason, I am hesitant to point to any one defect in present-day Christianity and make all our troubles to stem from it alone. That so-called Bible religion in our times is suffering rapid decline is so evident as to need no proof, but just what has brought about this decline is not so easy to discover. I can only say that I have observed one significant lack among evangelical Christians which might turn out to be the real cause of most of our spiritual troubles. Of course, if that were true, then the supplying of that lack would be our most critical need.

The great deficiency to which I refer is the lack of spiritual discernment, especially among our leaders. . . .

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

Tonight I Pray that you come to the Lord Jesus with all of the difficulties in your life.  I pray that as you lay your cares at His throne that you will also thank Him for all of the Joy and Goodness that He brings into your life.  That as you pray your faithfulness reaches to the clouds as a pleasing aroma to God.  I pray that you never forget that your future as His child is in HIS hands and that nothing will take Him by surprise! That even when our future seems dark and unclear we can look to Jesus knowing that it is when we put all of our trust in Him that He will help us to navigate through the maze of life before us.  I pray that you realize that I can do ALL things through Christ Jesus!!!  Stand on that faith and walk in HIS Light!!!  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen…  I love You All…  God bless you!!! ♥♥♥

Evidence of the Spirit at Work

Someone wrote to me recently asking what I meant by a statement which occurs in the booklet Paths to Power, which I wrote some years ago. The passage reads: "No one was ever filled with the Holy Spirit without knowing it. The Holy Spirit always announces Himself to the human consciousness." What bothered my correspondent was the nature of this "announcement." Of what does it consist? How may we recognize it? Is it some kind of physical evidence, or what?

This whole question is worthy of larger treatment than I can give it in this limited space. But possibly these thoughts will prove helpful to any who may be confused about the nature of spiritual evidence.

There is such a thing as the secret workings of the Spirit in the soul of man, for a time unknown and unsuspected by the individual. In fact, most of the fruits of the Spirit are unsuspected by the man in whom they are found. The most loving, most patient, most compassionate soul is unlikely to be aware of these graces. He is almost certain to believe that he is anything but loving or patient or kind. Others will discover the operations of the Spirit within him long before he will and will thank God for his sweet Christian character while he may at the same time be walking in great humility before God, mourning the absence of the very graces that others know he possesses.

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

TONIGHT I PRAY that you come to the Lord and find rest.  He is all around you and wants to bless and restore each one of you.  We need to breathe Him in with each breath we take.  The way ahead can be dark and steep.  Grab unto His hand with openness and trust.  Ask the Holy Spirit within you to order your day and control your thoughts, for the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.  You can have as much of HIS peace as you want, through correct choices that you make with Him each day. Choose to get closer to Him through His Word and prayer, so that He will be an ever present help in times of trouble.  As you savor this gift, you find HIM.  When you abide in Him, you find joy and peace.  His peace will never leave you even until the end of time.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen…  I love you all!!!!  God bless you!!!! ♥♥♥

Christians and the Sabbath
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.  —Hebrews 4:9–10

Of the Ten Commandments, there is probably more confusion about this one than about any other: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8). So let's understand what it is and what it isn't.

This commandment originally was given to the Hebrew people for a day of Sabbath rest, which, by the way, is Saturday. This commandment to keep the Sabbath is the only command that is not repeated in the New Testament. It was given to the Jewish people but not to non-Jews.

Jesus never taught anyone to keep the Sabbath. In fact, He was repeatedly accused of breaking the Sabbath. The Jewish leaders came down on Jesus because He healed a man on the Sabbath day. Religion and rituals began to overtake the whole purpose of what the Sabbath was. Jesus told the Pharisees, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27).

The apostles never taught anyone to keep the Sabbath. The Jews met in their synagogue on Saturday. The early church, made up of Jews and Gentiles, met on the first day of the week, Sunday. Why did they meet on Sunday? That is the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. It was a New Covenant.

Some have taken the Sabbath and have tried to turn it into a law that Christians should keep. But the Bible addresses this in Colossians 2:16–17, saying, "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ." The Sabbath was pointing to and was fulfilled in Jesus. One word could sum up our faith: done. It was done for us by Christ on the cross.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Utilizing Our Spiritual Resources

I think that most Christians would be better pleased if the Lord did not inquire into their personal affairs too closely. They want Him to save them, keep them happy and take them to heaven at last, but not to be too inquisitive about their conduct or service. But He has searched us and knows us; He knows our downsitting and our uprising and understands our thoughts afar off. There is no place to hide from those eyes that are as a flame of fire and there is no way to escape from the judgment of those feet that are like fine brass. It is the part of wisdom to live with these things in mind. God is love and His kindness is unbounded, but He has no sympathy with the carnal mind. He remembers that we are dust, indeed, but He refuses to tolerate the doings of the flesh. He has given us His word; He has promised that we would never be tempted above what we were able to bear; He has placed Himself at our disposal in response to believing prayer; He has made available to us the infinite moral power of His Holy Spirit to enable us to do His will here on earth. There is no excuse for our acting like timid weaklings. I hope that you enjoyed this as much as I did!!!  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

Tonight I Pray that you rest in HIS loving Presence.  Everyday difficulties will happen in your life and you should never be afraid to lay them at the feet of Jesus.  I pray that you will allow Holy Spirit to move through you so that you will become the person the Lord has destined you to be.  I pray that you will take the time to listen for His voice and let go of all the baggage that you are carrying alone.  Just lay it all at the feet of Jesus!!!  I pray that you will be open to the hand of the Lord in your life.  I pray that you relax in HIS Peace and trust that He will strengthen you and prepare you for each task that He has for you.  I pray that you hold tightly to HIS hand as He walks you through each day, one step at a time.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen.  I Love You All!!!  God Bless You!!!♥♥♥

Living by Faith in the Night

To do His supreme work of grace within you He will take from your heart everything you love most. Everything you trust in will go from you. Piles of ashes will lie where your most precious treasures used to be. . . . All this God will accomplish at the expense of the common pleasures that have up to that time supported your life and made it zestful. Now under the careful treatment of the Holy Spirit your life may become dry, tasteless and to some degree a burden to you. While in this state you will exist by a kind of blind will to live; you will find none of the inward sweetness you had enjoyed before. The smile of God will be for the time withdrawn, or at least hidden from your eyes. Then you will learn what faith is; you will find out the hard way, but the only way open to you, that true faith lies in the will, that the joy unspeakable of which the apostle speaks is not itself faith but a slow-ripening fruit of faith; and you will learn that present spiritual joys may come and go as they will without altering your spiritual status or in any way affecting your position as a true child of the Heavenly Father. And you will also learn, probably to your astonishment, that it is possible to live in all good conscience before God and men and still feel nothing of the peace and joy you hear talked about so much by immature Christians.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

TONIGHT I PRAY that each one of us step out in faith and take our walk with the Lord Jesus seriously.  That we realize as Christians we are justified by faith. We are justified, declared righteous, at the moment of our salvation. Justification does not make us righteous, but rather pronounces us righteous. Our righteousness comes from placing our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.  I pray that we realize that Jesus plus nothing equals everything!!!  I pray that we make time to give God our first fruits and not just our leftovers. To do everything for the glory of God!!!  That the FREEDOM that the Lord Jesus gives us to be set free from sin and to be joined with HIM in righteousness!!!  Walk in that FREEDOM, for when the SON sets you free you are FREE indeed!  Fall in love with Jesus all over again and begin to live your life for Him.  Rest in the warm glow of His love and let Him cover you with HIS righteousness.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen…  I love you all!!!!  God bless you!!!♥♥♥

The Three Cs of Life
It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to share the oppression of God's people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.  —Hebrews 11:24–25

What you decide to eat for lunch and what you decide to wear don't have long-lasting repercussions in life. But there are other decisions that are very important, like whom you will marry and what career path you take. And the most important choice of all is whether you will follow Jesus Christ.

You could call it the three Cs of life: challenges, choices, and consequences. We face challenges every day. Sometimes those challenges will come in the form of an opportunity that we can take advantage of. At other times they will come in the form of a temptation that hopefully we'll resist. Then we have the choices we will make. And then we have the consequences of those choices. If we have made the right choices, there will be good consequences. If we have made the wrong choices, there will be bad consequences.

We need to make the right choices in life because it can affect the entire course that our lives take. Think about people in the Bible who made certain choices. Moses made a choice to help his fellow Hebrews. He chose that over the riches and power of Egypt, and his choice saved a nation. Daniel's choice not to compromise brought great hope and encouragement to so many, which set a course that affected their lives.

But then there were wrong choices that people made. Adam's choice cost him paradise. Esau's choice cost him his birthright. King Saul's choice cost him his kingdom. Judas's choice cost him his apostleship and his very life. Pilate, Agrippa, and Felix—all Roman leaders—chose wrong and missed eternity with Christ.

The choices of life are binding in eternity. You will make choices today that will affect you forever. You make your decisions, and then your decisions make you.

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night…..

I Pray TONIGHT that you are overwhelmed by the love, presence and power of God! That your passion for Him is renewed with a burning desire to seek and know him to worship Him with all of your being!!! I pray that your eyes see with revelation and illumination in the realm of the spirit as deep calleth deep! God is taking you to a higher place in Him an ascended place where you are seated in heavenly places! I pray that you walk along the path that He has chosen for you.  It is both a privileged and perilous way; His glorious Presence and sharing His love and saving grace with others.  I pray that you never worry about what others think of you; because the work that the Lord is doing within you is hidden at first.  But as you grow in HIM the blossoms will burst forth, and abundant fruit will be born.  I pray that you stay on the path that the Lord has set before you and that you trust Him with your whole mind, heart and soul allowing HIS Spirit to fill you with His joy and wonderful peace. In Jesus name I pray,  Amen and Amen…  I Love you all...  God bless you!!! ♥♥♥

The Power of Godly Living

The most effective argument for Christianity is still the good lives of those who profess it. A company of pure-living and cheerful Christians in the community is a stronger proof that Christ is risen than any learned treatise could ever be. And a further advantage is that, while the average person could not be hired to read a theological work, no one can evade the practical argument presented by the presence of holy men and women. To the sons and daughters of this tense and highly mechanized age a holy life may seem unpardonably dull and altogether lacking in interest, but among all the fancy, interest-catching toys of the world a holy life stands apart as the only thing slated to endure. The stars make no noise, says the Italian proverb; yet they have outlived all man's civilizations and in their unassuming silence have shone on through the centuries, preaching their simple doctrine of God and enduring things. Francis of Assisi composed some sublime hymns and preached some quaint sermons, but for none of these is he known and by none of these has he captured the moral imagination of mankind. The utter purity of his life it is which has won him a lasting place in the hearts of every seeker after God.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Being Still in God's Presence

In coming to God we should place ourselves in His presence with the confidence that He is the aggressor, not we. He has been waiting to manifest Himself to us till such time as our noise and activity have subsided enough for Him to make Himself heard and felt by us. Then we should focus our soul’s  powers of attention upon the Triune Godhead. Whether One Person or Another claims our present interest is not important. We can trust the Spirit to bring before our minds the Person that we at the moment need most to behold. One thing more. Do not try to imagine God, or you will have an imaginary God; and certainly do not, as some have done, ?set a chair for Him.? God is Spirit. He dwells in your heart, not your house. Brood on the Scriptures and let faith show you God as He is revealed there. Nothing else can equal this glorious sight.I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Spiritual Adultery
by Skip Heitzig

During the days that Hosea prophesied, Israel enjoyed great prosperity outwardly but moral corruption inwardly. When King Solomon died, his son Rehoboam caused a split to happen in the kingdom, and many people rose up under a man named Jeroboam. Jeroboam took over the north and decided to mix the Jewish worship of the one true God with pagan worship. He made up this new sort of religion and let the people do whatever they wanted.

God didn't like this, so He decided to punish Israel with the view of letting them run so far and hard that they smashed their faces against a wall as a consequence of their own rebellion, so that when they said, "Ouch! Why did I ever run away from God in the first place?" God could say, "Come back! I'll restore you." And God used the prophet Hosea to share this message.

"When the Lord began to speak by Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea: 'Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, for the land has committed great harlotry by departing from the Lord'" (Hosea 1:2). So Hosea married a girl named Gomer, who possibly was a prostitute to begin with, and they had several children together (see Hosea 1:3-9). In the midst of all this, she broke their marriage vow: she walked out on Hosea and once again entered prostitution. She hung around with other lovers—just like Israel was doing to God.

Why would Gomer go out and leave the security of her husband's love to be a prostitute? Hard to imagine. But in the same vein, ask yourself this: Why would anybody, enjoying a relationship with God, leave Him? Why would anyone who has the intimacy and winsomeness of God's love forget about that and supplant that with some other relationship or devotion?

Israel did this. And all of us have committed spiritual adultery to some degree. Spiritual adultery happens when someone or something supersedes your commitment to God. I've seen it time and time again—I've had close friends who I have "walked to the house of God" with (Psalm 55:14), and now they no longer walk with me. It breaks my heart.

But check this out: "Then the Lord said to [Hosea], 'Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the Lord for the children of Israel, who look to other gods'.... So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley" (Hosea 3:1-2). God said, "Go find Gomer, pay good, hard cash to get her back, and forgive her." This is redemption: to set a slave free by paying a price.

And you know what? God did that for you. Peter said, "You were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" (1 Peter 1:18-19). God paid in blood to redeem you. It cost God everything to buy you, to bring you to Him.

Look at what God promised Israel if they turned back to Him in repentance: "I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord" (Hosea 2:19-20).

God wants to bring you back to Himself today; He wants that intimacy back. If you're thinking, Oh man, I've blown it so bad; there's just no way, go back and read through the first few chapters of Hosea. Let these verses sink in. No matter what you've done, you can come back to God and enjoy that intimacy of relationship with Him. If you come in any condition and, in true repentance and humility, say, "God, forgive me of my sins; wash me by Your blood," God will restore. He'll forgive. And He'll make you His own.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Restoration, Not Condemnation
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.  —Galatians 6:1

The way some people behave, you would think that the Bible says, "If another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should first gloat about it and make sure that you condemn him or her for it. Then proceed to tell as many people as possible."

The Bible doesn't say that, of course. Here is what it does say: "Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself" (Galatians 6:1).

The idea is to lift up those who are overtaken by sin, not condemn them. The idea is to restore—not destroy—them. Notice this verse says, "You who are godly." A truly godly man or woman will seek to restore such a person. James 5:19–20 tells us, "My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins."

One day, God forbid, it could be you. We should never lower our guard or rest on our laurels spiritually. No matter how long you have known the Lord, don't think that you are above falling, because you could fall. Any believer could. That is why we want to always be moving forward, walking with God and progressing spiritually. We never want to coast along in neutral.

And if you know someone who has fallen into sin, then your goal should be to restore, not to destroy. Your goal should be to help him or her, because the next time it could be you.I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Tonight I Pray as you close your eyes in sweet repose, that the Holy Spirit keep a watch over you as you rest.  I pray that He guard your heart and mind while you sleep.  I pray that your mind will focus on His Words as you learn to rest in Him; I pray that you think on these things as you sleep;  whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good…  I Pray that as you sleep the Holy Spirit will grant you His peace so you can relax in His everlasting arms. I pray that you awaken refreshed and ready to start your day with a thankful heart realizing that when you are truly thankful your visits with Jesus can be more intimate and fill you with gladness!!!  I pray that you realize that that we were made for this.   In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen…  I Love You All!!!  God bless you!!! ♥♥♥

Religious Elitism

The question of numbers and their relation to success or failure in the work of the Lord is one that disturbs most Christians more than a little.

On the question there are two opposing schools of thought. There are Christians, for instance, who dismiss the whole matter as being beneath them. These correspond to the lovers of high-brow music who firmly refuse to admit that there is anything of any real value other than that composed by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. They know they are in the minority and glory in the fact, for in their opinion it is a very, very superior minority and they look down their noses at all who enjoy anything less complicated than a symphony.

Of course this is cultural snobbery and tells us a lot more about such persons than they would care to have us know. They remind one of the unco-learned of whom Colton wrote, "So much they scorn the crowd that if the throng by chance go right, they purposely go wrong."

Now among religious persons I have met a few who are guilty of a kind of spiritual snobbery of which they are doubtless wholly unaware. These have recoiled so violently from popular, cheap-Jack Christianity that they simply have no longer any sympathy with crowds. They prefer to sit around the Lord's Table in a select and tight little circle, admiring the deep things of God and, I very much fear, admiring themselves a wee bit also. This is a kind of Protestant monasticism without the cowl and the beads, for it seeks to preserve the faith of Christ from pollution by isolating it from the vulgar masses. Its motives may be commendable, but its methods are altogether unscriptural and its spirit completely out of mood with that of our Lord.

When You're the Most Vulnerable
Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.
—Proverbs 16:18

Sometimes those who have known the Lord for a while are more vulnerable to falling into sin than those who are brand-new believers. When you're a brand-new believer, you tend to realize that you are weak and vulnerable. New believers think, I need help. I need prayer. I need to be around other Christians. I need to be in church.

But when you have known the Lord for ten, twenty, thirty, or forty years or longer, you might think, I am so strong now. I would never fall to that. How could anyone fall to a sin like that? But suddenly your unguarded strength becomes a double weakness.

On the night of His betrayal, Jesus told the disciples, "Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered' " (Matthew 26:31).

But Peter protested, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you" (verse 33).

Jesus told him, "I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me" (verse 34).

But Peter said, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!" (verse 35). Peter was essentially saying, "Lord, you've got it wrong. You are talking to Peter here. I would never fall."

The Bible says, "Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall." Don't say that you would never fall. And don't ever say, "I could fall in some areas, but I would never fall in this area." You could fall in that area too. Any of us could fall into sin at any time. That is why we can never rest on our laurels or think that we are somehow above it all. I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Rules Matter
"I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified."  —1 Corinthians 9:27

When I take my wife out for lunch, I'm usually hungry, so I'll decide what I want in the first minute. But even if it's the same restaurant we've been to before, she has to read the menu. Then she needs to ask the waiter a bunch of questions. Then she usually ends up ordering what she ordered last time.

The choice you make for lunch is not a big deal, but the choices of life are super important. Life is filled with choices to do right or wrong, every single day. No one is exempt from temptation's pull, or from making the wrong choices. And all choices—both good and bad—have consequences.

It comes down this this—we make our choices, then our choices make us.

On more than one occasion, the Christian life is compared to running a race, and the objective is to finish and win that race. In Philippians 3:13–14 Paul said, "Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven" (NLT).

As we run this race, we must play by the rules or we will be disqualified. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, "I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified" (NLT).

In other words, Paul is saying, "I do not want to be a hypocrite. I want to practice what I preach. We've seen a number of athletes become disqualified over the years for playing by their own rules."

Rules matter and you have to play by them. In our spiritual race, God has set up His rules. The rulebook they are found in is called the Bible. We can't pick and choose the rules we like and ignore the ones we don't. So the choice is yours. Will you be disqualified because you don't want to follow God's rules? Or will you play by the His Rulebook and run to win?

Purity of Heart

On our farm in Pennsylvania there were cherry trees which were attacked by little parasites of some sort. A parasite would get into a little branch, pierce the bark and exude a gum. Then the branch would get a knot on it and bend. All over the trees were those little bent places with gummy knots. After two or three years, those cherry trees would not bloom. If they did, the blooms usually dropped early and the cherries did not come to fruition. If the blooms did not drop early, the cherries would be flat and undeveloped or only red on one side. My father was not too interested in fruit. He was interested in cattle, horses and grain. If my father had known how he could have protected those trees before they got into that wretched condition and properly sprayed or treated them, he could have gotten rid of the worms and bugs and saved the trees and fruit. I believe that a pastor who is content with a vineyard that is not at its best is not a good husbandman. It is my prayer that we may be a healthy and fruitful vineyard and that we may be an honor to the Well Beloved, Jesus Christ the Lord, that He might go before the Father and say, "These are mine for whom I pray, and they have heard the Word and have believed on Me." I pray that we might fit into the high priestly prayer of John 17, that we would be a church after Christ's own heart so that in us He might see the travail of His soul and be satisfied. In order for us to be a vine like that, there must be basic purity. Each one must have a great purity of heart. I believe that there are no emotional experiences that do not rest upon great purity of heart. No one can impress me or interest me in any kind of spiritual manipulation if his or her heart is not pure--even if it is raising the dead. Sound righteousness in conduct must be at the root of all valid spiritual experience.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

Tonight I pray that you refuse to worry!!!  Look to Jesus for everything that you need He will never leave you or forsake you!!!  I pray that you get a real hunger for His Word in these last days so that you can hide His Word in your heart so that you will have it there when you need it.  Rest in the comfort of HIS Presence and remember that ALL THINGS are possible through Him!!!  When worry tries to wedge its way into your thoughts, remember that you have a Shepherd who will take care of you and you need not worry at all!!!  Though sometimes this fallen world can seem dark and dangerous, know that the safest place that you can be is in HIS will for your life.  For He has a plan for you and they are good!!!   Simply thank Him and trust Him for all the good that will come out of this trial. Rest in Him and He will strengthen you and prepare you for what lies ahead!  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen…  I Love You All!!!  God Bless You!!!♥♥♥

Word of the Day... July 14, 2015...

I have often wished that there were some way to bring modern Christians into a deeper spiritual life painlessly by short easy lessons; but such wishes are vain. No shortcut exists! God has not bowed to our nervous haste nor embraced the methods of our machine age. It is well that we accept the hard truth now: the man who would know God must give time to Him! He must count no time wasted which is spent in the cultivation of His acquaintance. He must give himself to meditation and prayer hours on end. So did the saints of old, the glorious company of the apostles, the goodly fellowship of the prophets and the believing members of the holy Church in all generations. And so must we if we would follow in their train! May not the inadequacy of much of our spiritual experience be traced back to our habit of skipping through the corridors of the kingdom like little children through the marketplace, chattering about everything but pausing to learn the true value of nothing?  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Remember God
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.  —Genesis 8:20

How often we call upon the Lord in our hour of need. But then when He answers our prayer, we all too often forget about Him.

When Noah and his family finally stepped onto terra firma once again, Noah did not forget about the Lord. The first thing he did was to build an altar to the Lord and offer sacrifices. It reminds me of the ten men with leprosy who came to Jesus, asking to be healed. Jesus healed them, but only one came back to say thank you. Jesus asked, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?" (Luke 17:17).

We are often like those nine. We are quick to ask God for help, but what about when He answers? Do we give Him glory? Do we say, "Lord, thank You for the answer?" Or, do we thank our lucky stars or say it was good luck?

Noah remembered God. He called on the Lord and brought a sacrifice before Him. And we can do the same. One way is by reading the Bible before we go to sleep at night. And when we get up in the morning, we can make time for the Word of God.

Another way is by giving thanks to God before a meal. We call it saying grace. I think it's a really great thing to see a family bowing their heads in prayer in a restaurant. What a testimony that is.

We can also remember the Lord with faithful giving. Proverbs 3:9–10 says, "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."

Noah made time in life for the things that matter. We should do the same.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Your Love Guard Me Through The Night….

TONIGHT I PRAY that you seek His face so that you will find fulfillment of your deepest longings.  I pray that when you see the beauty in this world that you will recognize His Glory and abiding Presence ever near to you.  He is here for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear Him.  I pray that His precious Holy Spirit lights up all of the dark corners of our minds with HIS light and love, so that He will literally glow through us as a beacon to others who are lost in the dark and cold.  If we let our pride go and give everything to Him, His Glory will reflect through our lives to save a dying world.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen and Amen….  I love you all!!!  God bless you!!!♥♥♥

Word of the Day... July 12, 2015...

He Doesn't Forget
Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.  —Genesis 8:1

When we talk about Noah's life, we tend to focus on the ark. But let's turn our attention to Noah's spiritual life for a moment. It probably had gotten pretty old for Noah, his wife, his children, and all those animals inside the ark. The sea can be a lonely place, and they had been inside the ark for approximately a year.

I wonder if Noah ever doubted during that time: Was this a good idea? Is this really what I should have done? He hadn't heard anything from the Lord. Did he wonder whether God had really spoken to him?

But I love how Genesis 8 begins: "Then God remembered Noah. . . ." This isn't implying that God had forgotten about him. Rather, it is using our language to help us get a picture of God. The Lord didn't forget about Noah, and the Lord doesn't forget about us, either.

Sometimes He works in a dramatic way in our lives. And sometimes months or years go by, and nothing dramatic happens. You're just living the Christian life by faith. You wonder, Is God even paying attention anymore? He is. And you know what? You just need to do the last thing He told you to do and be faithful there.

Remember this: God always finishes what He starts. That is why He is called the author and finisher of our faith. Philippians 1:6 says, "Being confident of this. He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion unto the day of Jesus Christ."

You just hold your course. Maybe you have felt a call to ministry, and there hasn't been a lot of fruit in your ministry. Just hold your course. Just carry on. Keep doing what God has told you to do.  I hope that you enjoyed this devotional as much as I did.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!  God bless you!!!

Blurred Goals and Spiritual Impediments

Like a doctor with a sick patient whose disease eludes diagnosis, religious leaders have for some years been aware that there is something seriously wrong with evangelicalism and have yet been unable to lay their finger upon the precise trouble. The symptoms they have discovered in abundance, but the cause back of them has been hard to locate. Mostly we have spent our time correcting symptoms, having all the while an uneasy feeling that our remedies did not go deep enough. Knowing that a disease that cannot be identified invariably calls out a flock of untrained experts to analyze and prescribe, we yet risk a pronouncement upon the condition of evangelical Christianity in our day, and we believe we may not be too far from the truth. The trouble seems to be a disorder of the spiritual nerve system which we might, for the lack of a proper term, call dual orientation. Its dominant characteristic appears to be a cross up among the nerve ganglia of the soul resulting in an in ability to control the direction of the life. The patient starts one direction and before he knows it he is going another. His inward eyes do not coordinate; each one sees a different object and seeks to lead the steps toward it. The individual is caught in the middle, trying to be true to both foci of the heart, and never knowing which he would rather follow. Evangelicalism (at least in many circles) is suffering from this strange division of life-purpose. Its theology faces toward the East and the sacred Temple of Jehovah. Its active interests face toward the world and the temple of Dagon. Doctrinally it is Christian, but actually it is pagan mentality, pagan scale of values and pagan religious principles.
