Word of the Day... July 15, 2013....

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,  but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:5-8

I love this scripture!!! As I read it simply takes my breath away.  We live in such a self- centered all about me world.  But when Jesus was here, He emptied Himself and became a servant to others. When He put on the towel and came to Peter to wash his feet, He was teaching us how to serve.  When Peter saw Jesus about to wash feet he told Him that he would never let Him wash his feet. Peter knew that Jesus was God almighty and to do something so lowly was beneath Him in Peter's eyes. Jesus told Him "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." (John 13:8).

When I see all that Jesus did for me I am so humbled and want to have the same attitude that He did in my own life. Humble, obedient and loving.  That is what Jesus taught us while He was with us even dying  a very painful and humiliating death on the cross. Our calling is to follow His example of self-sacrifice and "servanthood".

How can we do that in our everyday busy lives?  Make it a point to bless someone every day.  It doesn't have to be huge, just something that truly blesses someone else. If you have a neighbor who is elderly take her dinner while you are cooking yours.  You don’t have to stay just drop off a nice lunch or dinner Just because you were thinking of her.  Offer to help a neighbor carry in their groceries or return their rubbish can as you are bringing yours back. Sometimes all that is needed is a warm smile or a kind word.

These are really small things but they make a difference.  I think that is what Jesus wanted us to see through how He lived.  The Lord knew how much it would bless us in the end.  I think if every Christian did something nice for someone else we could change the world.  Think about it…..
