Word of the Day... April 5, 2013

As Christians, we know what we should and should not do.  We have the ultimate “how to” guide to life… the Bible.  It is human nature to sin. The only perfect person to ever walk the face of the earth was Jesus Christ, the son of God.  We were born with sin and throughout our lives, continue to sin.  Sometimes that sin is an act we purposely do and sometimes it’s a mistake or a slip up.  Sin is sin, no matter how you reconcile it or justify it, all sin is equal in the eyes of God.

Isn’t it all too easy to fall prey to sin?  Ephesians 6:10-12 says:

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

Satan knows how to tempt us and he is crafty, evil and merciless.  Do not fall prey to the temptations of sin he places before you.  When you sin, repent, turn away from it and try not to repeat it.  True repentance is not only being sorry for the sin you committed and asking for God’s forgiveness, it’s also not putting yourself in the situation to commit that sin again and basically, not repeating your sin.  The definition of insanity is someone who tries the same thing over and over again yet expects a different result.  It’s insane to repeat your sins because the wages of sin is death.

Do not be troubled, dear ones for God loves us, even though we sin, even though we don’t deserve it.  Satan will tempt you and entice you and then you sin and feel awful about it.  Sometimes sin can lead to so much despair that the person turns completely away from God just like king Saul did.  The devil wants you to feel awful, he wants you to punish yourself and wallow in your misery.  Sin will be forgiven if you ask for God’s forgiveness.  You are a child of God, don’t listen to the shame that the devil tries to impose on you.  You are worthy of God’s forgiveness.  Often we sin and feel so badly about it that we believe that we don’t deserve God’s forgiveness.  Do not believe that lie!! As a child of God, you deserve to be and are worthy of forgiveness and knowing that you will be forgiven is not prideful.  God knows your heart and He knows if you’re truly sorry for your sin (and if you’re not) and you will be forgiven if you ask for His forgiveness and mean it.

In Zechariah 3:1-7, Satan is making accusations against Joshua:

“Then the angel showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Joshua. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. This man is like a burning stick that has been snatched from the fire.”3 Joshua’s clothing was filthy as he stood there before the angel. 4 So the angel said to the others standing there, “Take off his filthy clothes.” And turning to Joshua he said, “See, I have taken away your sins, and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.”5 Then I said, “They should also place a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean priestly turban on his head and dressed him in new clothes while the angel of the Lord stood by. 6 Then the angel of the Lord spoke very solemnly to Joshua and said, 7 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: If you follow my ways and carefully serve me, then you will be given authority over my Temple and its courtyards. I will let you walk among these others standing here “

God makes everything new again, once you ask for forgiveness as a Christian, you are washed clean of your sins.  No sin, no circumstance, no evil deed done is too much for God to forgive as long as you honestly ask for His mercy and forgiveness and have Jesus in your heart.  He loves us just that much!  I hope you have a Simply Heavenly day!!!
