Word of the Day.... April 3, 2013

But what things were a gain to me, these things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.  Yet indeed, I also count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, Philippians 3:7-8

When we became a Christian we gave up many of the things that we used to do in our lives and depending on our lifestyles these changes could be very dramatic.  I can’t tell you how many times that I have heard people tell me, “I used to have so much fun! I went to parties…got drunk, got high and had sex.  But when I became a Christian I gave it all up for Jesus!!!

When I hear statements like that I have to ask… what did you really “give up”?    If they are looking at their life honestly and realistically, they would have to come to the same conclusion that Paul did in this scripture.  Paul was telling us in this scripture that the stuff that he once thought as so very important, the stuff that he placed so much value in, meant nothing in comparison to the awesome privilege of belonging to Jesus Christ.

Maybe as Christians each of us need to take a good look at our own lives and ask ourselves the question, is what I am doing making me closer to Jesus?  Is it building me up spiritually or tearing me down? Then you need to come to the conclusion that anything that is keeping you from having an intimate, relationship with Jesus Christ, should be counted as a loss and must be taken out of your life. When this happens we can have a closer, more intimate walk with Jesus.  Have a Simply Heavenly Wednesday!!!!
