Word of the Day... January 6, 2013

15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. 19 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” John 14:15-21

I love the Gospel of John.  It is one of my favorite books in the Bible. I really like how the Lord has left us the Holy Spirit He is our Helper. The word “Helper” is the Greek word parakletos.  It means the one who is called alongside to help. Isn’t it wonderful to be instructed by the Author of the Book?  It is so wonderful to have the Holy Spirit to help us to understand His Word.  When he turns the light on for us it is light….Oh yeah now I get it!!!  It is our Aha moment when we realize how lucky we are to have the Holy Spirit with us every day in every way.

I chuckle when I see my grandson try and figure something out or he is having a hard time with something and he will pull his shirt over his face and say “Holy Spirit, I really need you to help me through this mess”  (I told him that the Holy Spirit lives inside of his heart).  It is really hard not to laugh.  But when I reflect on it he is doing what every one of us should be doing.  Instead of relying on what we think we know or what we assume we can do, we should all be asking the Holy Spirit to guide us in every part of our life.  Can you imagine our lives and how they would change if they were controlled totally by the Holy Spirit?

Take some time out today and spend it with Jesus.  He loves you so very much. I hope that you all have a blessed and Simply Heavenly Sunday.  :):)
