Word of the Day... January 4, 2013

Love Your Enemies
44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.
Matthew 5:44-45

I read this scripture today and I asked myself when was the last time I prayed for an enemy? I mean really prayed and not just blurt out “Bless them according to their works Lord.” Jesus prayed for His enemies even while He was dying on the cross.  The first statement Jesus made from the cross was, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" (Luke 23:34). Maybe we would have understood it more if He had said, "Father, Strike them down," or "Father, judge them." But the first thing Jesus said from the cross was a prayer for His enemies: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."  Jesus was practicing what He preached for all of us to do.  He lived it. I think He wanted them to be forgiven because He truly realized just how badly they needed to be forgiven.

As a human when I think of how Jesus modeled Christian behavior for us I am blown away.  This is something that I can only aspire to be.  I want to copy Jesus and have the grace that He had while on this earth.  He never once gave into His flesh!!  I know that I cannot do that without the power of the Holy Spirit coming through me. If it was left up to me, there would be the barbs of my tongue slashing out at them. It is only through His grace that I can reach out in love and pray for my enemies.  I am so thankful for His marvelous grace!!!  I hope that you all have a Simply Heavenly day!!!  God bless you!!!
