Word of the Day... January 31, 2013

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sometimes when we see the word inadequate, it reminds us of all of the things that we don’t do well.  Where we all fall short at something and where we feel fear.  All of us experience this feeling at one time or another.  I am just not good enough.

All of us have heard people say: I am afraid to get up in front of the class and do my report.  I will make a mistake and they will laugh at me. Or why can’t I be as good of a mother as she is, she makes it look so easy. I can’t stop smoking I am just not strong enough, I can’t take care of my aging parents I am not good at that, or I just can’t go on living when every single dream I have ever had has never come true.  I am such a failure at everything I do.

I don’t care who you are or where you come from every single one of us have felt this at one time or another in our lives.  Let’s face it we are human and sometimes we are going to feel like a failure. Simply inadequate.

If you have retreated to the back alley of life and are wallowing in your inadequacies, just look up.  You are exactly where you need to be for the Lord to begin His work in you.  When you are weak is when He is very strong and He wants to love you and care for you all of the days of your life.  Don’t waste another minute running from Him.  Run to Him and receive His power.  He makes all things new!

I hope all of you take the time today to spend some time with Jesus.  Even if it is just to say His name when you feel scared or worried. It helps me so much when I am worried or afraid just to say… Jesus…  There is just something about that name.  I hope that all of you have a Simply Heavenly Thursday!!!  God bless you!!!

A Simply Heavenly Maple Cinnamon Chia Almond Butter

Smart Sweet: Maple Cinnamon Chia Almond Butter
Posted by Jamie Schneider on December 28th, 2012

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 1
Serving Size: 16 oz. (500 mls)

If you love nut butters as much as I do then you will love this twist on typical almond butter. While almond butter is a good healthy fat option to add to celery sticks or sprouted breads, this Maple Cinnamon Chia Almond Butter packs even more nutritional punch thanks to the added chia seeds, hemp seeds, and cinnamon!

It’s great to have around the house for something savory and sweet and a great option to bring to the host of any get together or party.

2 cup raw almonds
2 Tbsp. hemp seeds
1 Tbsp. chia seeds
3 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½  teaspoon kosher salt
1 ½  teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1.) Preheat oven to 300F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a
large bowl, mix together the almonds, hemp seeds, chia seeds,
cinnamon, and maple syrup. Spread out almond mixture onto baking sheet
and bake for 30 minutes, stirring once half way through.
Note: Make sure the almonds do not burn. You will want to check them at 20 minutes.

2.) Remove from oven and allow the almond mixture to cool for a few
minutes. Mix in food processor or high-powered blender for about 10 minutes, stopping to stir every 30-60 seconds as needed.
Note: If you find that the mix isn’t stirring easily then add in 2 Tbsp. of canola oil, or any oil of your choice.

3.) The mixture is ready once it’s smooth. Add in the vanilla and salt and blend until mixed well.

I found this on the web while looking for juicing recipes and I have to tell you it is so easy to make and tastes Simply Heavenly!!!  A real plus is there is no dairy and the chia swells up so that you hardly notice it.  I bet that you could also substitute walnuts  or cashews for the almonds.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!!

Word of the Day... 30, 2013

28 But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will. 29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts4:28-30

Taking time to worship

I found it very interesting that the Christian disciples didn't just rush into their petitions to the Lord when they were praying. They took the time to worship Him first.

I never thought about that until I was in the book of Acts. I had always panicked and took my concerns to the Lord without worshiping Him as He deserves.  I think that prayer should always begin with worship; a time of quietness before the Lord, recognizing the greatness of God acknowledging the One to whom we are coming to for help, and realizing that God has it all under control.  That He is large and in charge.

Worship gives us perspective and strength. Then we are ready to bring our petitions before the Lord. So now I start my prayers with worship then my petition and lastly more worship!

I can never thank my Father enough for all He does for me every day! I hope that each and every one of you take the time each morning to spend a little time with Jesus in the Word and prayer before going out into the world. He can make all the difference in how your day goes! I hope you have a Simply Heavenly day God bless you!!!

A Simply Heavenly Homemade cough Syrup....

I found this on-line and I loved it!!!  Children today are getting so many chemicals put into their bodies to make them “well”  and the result is that so many of them have more allergies then we ever experienced growing up.  That is why I liked Mrs Happy Homemaker’s  site.  So here is her recipe for a Simply Heavenly Grandma’s cough syrup:

Grandma’s Homemade Cough Syrup
January 2, 2013 · by Mrs Happy Homemaker

So, I’ve done a few posts on natural cold remedies recently.  Homemade vapor rub and shower soothers. You should be able to tell now that this time of the year is the worst on my family’s sinuses.
In any cold fighting arsenal, you need something to treat that cough.  So, I wanted to share with you my Great Grandma’s homemade cough syrup.  She used it on all of her kids, grand-kids, and on me…and now I make it myself.  It’s so-so-so simple with just 3 all-natural cough busting ingredients.
Olive Oil: Making a homemade cough syrup using olive oil will help you combat your cough as well as reduce reduce inflammation in the throat.
Honey:  Honey helps with coughs, particularly buckwheat honey. In a study of 110 children, a single dose of buckwheat honey was just as effective as a single dose of dextromethorphan in relieving nocturnal cough and allowing proper sleep. You can use any type of honey you have on hand though.
Lemon: Because everyone knows that lemon & honey is the one of the best throat soother combinations.

Grandma's Homemade Cough Syrup
Yield: About 1 cup
·        3/4 cup raw organic honey
·        1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
·        3 lemons - juiced
Add all ingredients to a small pot over medium heat until steaming. Remove from the heat & let it cool. Place it into a mason jar or other container with a tight fitting lid. Store it in the fridge for 3 months, or on the counter top for 1.5 months.
Use by the teaspoon or tablespoon, as needed.
Stir & warm before using
Use as soon as you feel a cold coming on.
Also great for allergies

I hope that you try this and let me know what you think.  Have a Simply Heavenly day!!!

I AM ABOVE ALL THINGS:  your problems, your pain, and the swirling events in this ever changing world.  When you behold My face, you rise above the circumstances and rest with Me in heavenly realms.  This is the way of peace, living in the light of My Presence.  I guarantee that you will always have problems in this life, but they must not become your focus.  When you feel yourself sinking in the sea of circumstances, say “Help me Jesus!” and I will draw you back to Me. If you have to say that thousands of times daily, don’t be discouraged.  I know your weakness and I meet you in that very place. ~ Jesus Calling~

Word of the Day... January 28,2013

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy… meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:8

In Philippians 4:8, the apostle Paul gives us an extensive list of thing that we should focus our thoughts on:

The Message puts it as: "Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse".

What we think about ultimately affects what we do. Therefore, we must nip in the bud any thoughts that are impure, spiritually harmful, or that make us worry.

This means refusing to believe you can be a Christian and still live a worldly lifestyle.  Philippians 4:6 cautions us to guard our hearts.  Christians have hope of eternal rewards in heaven if they are faithful on earth. If we keep our focus on living for eternity rather than the passing pleasures of earth, we will have a heart for Jesus Christ.

If our possessions or activities cause us to lose our eternal rewards, of what worth are they (Luke 12:33-37)? Christians often try to serve both God and their own desires. But Jesus clearly stated, “No one can serve two masters for you will love one and hate the other” (Matt.6:24). God gives us joy through times of work and rest (Ecc. 5:19). We must find that balance between work and play. When we do set aside time for relaxation as Jesus did (Mark 6:31), we should choose an activity where we can have fun and yet still bring glory to the Lord.

The question is not “Can I do these things?” but “Would doing these things be the best choice?” Will these things help me, show love to my neighbor, and glorify God? We are to pursue praiseworthy activities, not simply permissible ones. However He leads you, passionately follow Him above all else. Prepare for eternity. Every sacrifice will seem insignificant when we meet Jesus.  I hope that you have a Simply Heavenly Day!!!  God bless you!!!

Word of the Day.... January 27, 2013

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
Isaiah 43:2

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three Jewish teenagers who walked with God in the midst of a godless society. When King Nebuchadnezzar attacked Jerusalem and carried away captives to Babylon, he singled out Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego for royal service.  The King was grooming and schooling them in the idolatrous ways of Babylon’s culture.

One day, Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden statue of himself and commanded that everyone in his kingdom was to bow down before it and worship. The penalty for disregarding the king's order was death. So all of the people obediently fell before this image, except for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

The outraged king called them into his presence and gave them one last chance to bow down. But they told him, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty" (Daniel 3:17).

So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were tied up and thrown into the furnace, heated seven times hotter than usual, as ordered by King Nebuchadnezzar. But as the king watched, he saw not three, but four men in the furnace, free and walking around.

I believe that Jesus was walking with them through the fire. And Jesus will walk with you through your fire. He will walk with you through your hardships. In Isaiah 43:2 we read, "When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you."

We are never alone in life. That is the message from Genesis to Revelation. Jesus has always been there, and He said, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20).  When Jesus tells us something you can count on Him.  I hope that all of you have a Simply Heavenly Sunday!!!  God bless you!!!

Word of the Day... January 26, 2013

You are Mine for all time; nothing can separate you from My love. Since I have invested My very life in you, be well assured that I will also take care of you. When your mind goes into neutral and your thoughts flow freely, you tend to feel anxious and alone. Your focus becomes problem-solving. To get your mind back into gear, just turn towards Me, bringing yourself and your problems into My Presence.

Many problems vanish instantly in the light of My love, because you realize you are never alone. Other problems may remain, but they become secondary to knowing Me and rejoicing in the relationship I so freely offer you. Each moment you can choose to practice My Presence or to practice the presence of problems. ~Jesus Calling~

How To Make A Simply Heavenly Herbal Tea For Cold & Flu Relief... That is Simply Heavenly!!!

With the cold and flu season upon us I thought that I would share this page of great home remedies for the cold and flu.  I think it is Simply Heavenly!!!

Cold Flu Tea
When you're huddled at home nursing a cold or flu, a warm cup of herb tea is comfort in itself. An advantage to drinking tea is that the liquid thins congestion and flushes out toxins. It's true that tea is time-consuming, but try to find time to take care of yourself when you're sick. Drinking two to three cups of the following tea, nice and hot, will make you sweat and lower a fever. Afterward, if possible, tuck yourself into a warm bed.
- 1/2 teaspoon Yarrow flowers (Achillea millefolium)
- 1/2 teaspoon Elder flowers (Sambucus canadensis)
- 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon Echinacea root
- 1/2 teaspoon Schisandra berries
- 3 cups boiling water
1.Combine the herbs in a teapot and pour the boiling water over them. Steep for at least 20 minutes.
2.Strain and drink throughout the day. You can make a double batch and keep it in the refrigerator. Just be sure to warm it before drinking.

Sore Throat Gargle with Sage
The Sage (Salvia officinalis) used in the following recipe is a classic gargle, but other herbs such as Marjoram, Thyme or Hyssop can replace it. Opera singers once used Marjoram to ease a strained throat.

-1 cup boiling water
-2 teaspoons fresh or dried Sage leaves
- 1/4 ounce salt
1.Pour the boiling water over the sage, cover and steep for 20 minutes.
2.Strain and add the salt. Gargle as needed. Store in the refrigerator for a couple of days.

Herbal Steam

Warm, moist air opens nasal and bronchial passages. Combined with herbs, steam is one of the most effective, all-purpose cold and flu cures. To humidify and disinfect the entire house, simmer the water with the herbs or essential oils on low heat for half an hour. Essential oils can also be used in most commercial humidifiers, but check the instructions.

-3 cups water
-5 drops essential oil of Lavender
-5 drops essential oil of Rosemary
-5 drops essential oil of Bergamot
1. Simmer the water in a pan. Remove from the heat and add the oils (you can get the same effect by putting 1/8 cup total of fresh or dried herbs in the simmering water instead of the essential oils).
2. Hold your face over the steam and cover your head with a bath towel. Tuck the ends of the towel around the pan so the steam doesn't escape. Breathe in the fragrant steam as deeply as you comfortably can, coming out for fresh air when needed (about every minute or so).

Lemon Antiseptic Throat Spray

A diluted lemon spray is one of the most effective tools to knock down a cold or flu. Other herbs to use in a throat spray are lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, and peppermint. When sprayed through the air, terpene compounds in these oils combine with oxygen to increase the oil's antiseptic properties.

-15 drops Lemon essential oil
- 5 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
1.Combine the ingredients and pour the concoction into a spray bottle.
2.Shake well, then gently spray into your throat throughout the day.

Essential Oil Vapor Rub

Ointments called vapor rubs are designed to be rubbed directly on the chest and throat. They rely on essential oils such as peppermint and eucalyptus to produce a heating sensation that reduces constriction by stimulating blood circulation. The oils in a vapor balm are also absorbed through the skin to relieve congestion and kill infection. They serve double duty - the antibiotic scent is also inhaled into the lungs. Vapor balms sold in pharmacies still use compounds derived from antibiotic essential oils (or synthetic counterparts), such as thymol from Thyme and menthol from Mint.

-10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
-10 drops Peppermint essential oil
-3 drops Thyme essential oil
-1/8 cup Olive oil
1.Combine the ingredients and rub on your chest and throat.
2.To increase the warmth of the balm, rub the oil briskly onto the skin. A warm piece of flannel placed on the chest afterward will increase the warming sensation.

We Shall Be Witnesses To Him
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power to live in such a way that you will become a reflection of him. That's what being a witness is.

It is interesting that in Antioch the people began to call Jesus followers “Christians” because they were like Christ. The term “Christians” was not one that his followers took upon themselves. It was the term given to them by the media of that day because they were so Christ like. When I became a Christian in the 1970s we were given a name by the media as well. We were known as “Jesus freaks” because we were simply crazy about Jesus Christ!

God's desire is that our lives reflect Jesus. Peter tells us that we should follow in His steps (1Peter 2:21), but we can’t do that by our own power. We cannot forgive. We cannot love. We cannot be kind and considerate like Jesus. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit, that we can be transformed into his image and be witnesses to Him.

I can tell you that when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, it is life-changing! The Holy Spirit has changed my life forever! Whoever said that being a Christian is boring, doesn't even have a clue of what real living is. I hope all of you go out there today and give them heaven. Have a Simply Heavenly Friday! God bless you! :):)

Word of the Day.... January 24, 2013

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.  Ephesians 2:4-9

Grace is amazing!  It frees us from condemnation of the law and the tyranny of pleasing people and adjusting our lives to the demands and expectations of human opinion. It gives relief and the enjoyment of freedom along with all its benefits. It silences needless guilt and removes self-imposed shame.

Grace is the gift that the Lord gives to us freely.  They didn’t need the rope to tie Jesus arms to that cross.  He climbed on that cross willingly for each and every one of us.  The death of Jesus Christ was not an accident but an act of devotion to us. You can call it simple.  Call it a gift.  But don’t ever call it easy.  Call it what it is:  Simply Grace.

I hope that as all of you go out today, take just a moment to stop and just say thank you Jesus!!!  For His greatest gift that we never deserved.  Have a Simply Heavenly Day!!!

But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips. Job 2:10

One of the greatest themes of Christianity is triumphant hope.  Not just hope as a distant vague dream, but the triumphant hope, the kind of hope where everything ends out right in the end. That we can have the faith so that in the midst of our struggles and storms of life, we can advance our thoughts beyond today and see the relief…  triumph…. and victory.  Because in the end the Lord does win.  ~Charles Swindoll~

I just had to share this today.  It blessed my heart as I read this  and I just feel like there is someone out there who needed to hear this. I hope that you all have a Simply Heavenly day!!!  God bless you!!!

Real Freedom!
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

I believe that the Lord wants us to be who we are.  It is okay to break the mold and exercise your God given Freedom.

God, in grace, has purchased you from the bondage of sin and death.  Jesus Christ came and literally set you free!!!

As you go out into the world today, let that sense of freedom come out in you so that you can enjoy a Simply Heavenly day in the Lord Jesus!!!  God bless you!!!

May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5

Oh I love that Scripture!  "May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God."

It is interesting how often Satan comes along and questions God's love for us, especially when things have gone wrong in our lives. Satan will come along and say “If God really loves you, why did he allow this to happen?" He is trying to make you question God's love for you.

God does love us, and he is working in all of the circumstances of our lives with a good purpose. That we may know! We don't have to guess whether God loves us we can know it! He has laid it out before us like a map. It is when we read the map we can know where we are going. It is all in His Word. May God direct your hearts and to the love of God.

Today I would like to take a moment to acknowledge a great man of God, Dr. Martin Luther King. He helped God to bless us with discomfort at easy answers, anger at injustice, so that we can work for freedom, equality and peace for all.  I hope that you all have a Simply Heavenly day!!!  God bless you!!!

Simply Heavenly Mustard Roasted Fish!

Tonight I am going to make a dish that I love!  It is mustard roasted fish and it is a recipe from Ina Garten.  She is one of my favorite cooks and I have started collecting all of her cookbooks.  Her recipes are easy to follow and they always turn out very well.  I think you will love this one as much as I do.  You can use any good white fish for this one.  I have done it with fillet of sole, halibut, and cod.  I substitute Greek yogurt for the creme fraiche and it works beautifully.

Mustard-Roasted Fish
2008, Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics, All Rights Reserved

·  Prep Time:10 min
·  Inactive Prep Time:Cook Time15 min
·  Level:  Easy
·  Serves:  4 servings

  • 4 (8-ounce) fish fillets such as red snapper
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces creme fraiche
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons minced shallots
  • 2 teaspoons drained capers
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. (You can also use an ovenproof baking dish.) Place the fish fillets skin side down on the sheet pan. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
Combine the creme fraiche, 2 mustards, shallots, capers, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a small bowl. Spoon the sauce evenly over the fish fillets, making sure the fish is completely covered. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish, until it's
barely done. (The fish will flake easily at the thickest part when it's done.) Be sure not to overcook it! Serve hot or at room temperature with the sauce from the pan spooned over the top.

I serve this with steamed asparagus with lemon zest and olive oil and a nice glass of sparkling water and lime.  I hope you enjoy this Simply Heavenly meal!

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."  Matthew 5:16

Jesus reminded us that we are to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. There is a place to let our light shine and proclaim the truth of God. There is also a place in the world for us to be salt.

Have you ever noticed, that people realize were are Christian’s without us even telling them? They know something is different about us, sometimes it takes them a little while but their finger on it, but eventually they get it. They get it because they can see the light of Jesus Christ inside of us.

Do you remember that song we used to sing in Sunday school? This little light of mine I'm the let it shine, I’m going let it shine, I’m going let it shine.  This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. As Christian that's what we are little lights of Jesus Christ!

The religious leaders thought they had eliminated the problem when they crucified Jesus. But now, we his little lights are sharing the love of Jesus everywhere we go.  It is 2013 years later and they haven't managed to put out the light! If we stay in the word of God and close to the Holy Spirit we will remain salty. That is the kind of follower of Jesus that God wants us to be. Everyone needs the saving grace of Jesus Christ! It is in these last days, that we have the greatest opportunity to share his love and his gift of salvation anyone who will listen.

I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday. I hope you take a little time now to share a smile, a kind word, so that someone who is in a dark place might see that little light inside you! Have a Simply Heavenly Day!  :):)
