Aloha 'Oe Suzanne, Until We Meet Again....

Tomorrow is going to be a very hard day for me.  I am going to a funeral for a girlfriend of mine who is one of the sweetest women I have ever known. Suzanne was a friend to everyone. She had a smile that always made you feel welcome and the biggest heart I have ever known.  She lived the "Law of Love"  I don't think I have ever heard her say an unkind word to anyone.  She wasn't a gossip and she was an optimist, always looking for the good in others.

Last week while she was out in her yard feeding her dog,  she fell over and died at 51 years old.  She had a cerebral hemorrhage. There were no signs.  Nothing that could prepare her family and friends for what was about to happen. She leaves behind a husband who seems so lost without her and a daughter and three sons who love her more then words can say.  When I went over to their home to tell them how sorry I was and bring some food, the grief was heavy in the air.  Her husband looked at me and said "I don't have a wife anymore, she is gone"  I could feel the tears welling up in my own eyes as I shared just a small piece of the pain he was going through.  He loved her with everything he had in him and was standing before me like a lost little boy.  I told him that there were no words that I could say to ease the pain he was feeling.  He knew she was in Heaven.  But it is hard to think about angels and Heaven when you have this huge hole in the place where your heart used to be.

Death comes for all of us and we don't know the day or the hour that the Lord will call us home.  That is why it is so important to be ready.  As humans many of us think that we are going to live forever!!!   It is so humbling to realize that we could be gone in a moment, a snap of our fingers, a twinkling of an eye. We never know when death will shake us and we all dread how we will feel. Death can be a very scary thing if you are not a Christian I can tell you this death is not the end.  I believe that death is only the beginning.

Why do we all seem to fear death so very much?  I tend to think it is because it is unknown.  The fear of losing control over our body and our very life.  We fear for the ones that we are going to leave behind and what is going to happen to them.  I also think we are afraid of the pain that usually comes with death.  There is pain and travail when we come into this world and there is usually pain when we leave this world.  Few of us know how we will die. Quick and painless, in our sleep, a long drawn out illness—the mystery of it, the inability to prepare, can be frightening. If we do know, if we’ve been diagnosed with a terminal illness, it can still be scary.

But it is only a moment. A moment nearly everyone has gone through or will go through. And, when that moment is over, we can claim Philippians 3:20-21: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”

What are some of the ways we can shake the fears we all have of death.  If you aren't a Christian, accept Jesus into your heart.  I love the story in the Bible when Jesus is talking to Nicodemus and Nicodemus asks Jesus how he can get to heaven.  Here is what Jesus tells him:
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. John 3:3-6

If you want a new life in Christ Jesus, ask Him into your heart today.  Simply pray this:  Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you took the pain of the cross to give me new life. I ask you to come into my heart and to give me your peace and joy. I confess that I am a sinner that I have gone my own way and have done wrong. Please forgive me for my sins. I receive you now as my Lord and Savior. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Help me to follow you and to serve you all my life. Thank you, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.  If you prayed that prayer you are a new creature in Christ Jesus!  You are Born Again!

The next thing you can do is talk about death with your family.  Everyone loves to talk about new life coming into a family, but people are reticent when talking of death.  Death is a part of life.  Jesus even went through death for us.  He knows how we feel and I believe He is right there with us leading us home. It gives me great comfort to know my friend Suzanne was not alone when she died.  I know Jesus was right there holding her in His loving arms and taking her home.  Talk about not loving the things of the world so much.  Remember as Christians we are not of this world. Spend time in the Word of God so that you can grow strong as a man or woman of God.  Never be afraid to get on your knees and take everything to Jesus in prayer.  He listens and I believe that all prayers are answered.  He truly knows what is best for each one of us.

There is an old Hawaiian song that was written by Queen Lili'uokalani that we always sing at funerals here in Hawaii.  I think it is beautiful.  This is for you my dear friend Suzanne:
Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo
One fond embrace,
A ho`i a`e au
Until we meet again

Farewell to you, farewell to you
The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
One fond embrace,
'Ere I depart
Until we meet again

We Are His Light In a Dark World

As 2012 came rolling in this year, I couldn't help but feel excited and happy to be alive, but i am also looking  for the coming of Jesus Christ!  I never would have believed it possible that the world could ever get so turned around as it is now. It seems that everything we used to think of as right is now so wrong.  Governments are legalizing abominations, children are being murdered  as a form of birth control in the millions, people are more concerned with the rights of abused animals then they are the rights of children and the elderly.  Churches are taking down their crosses so they don't offend anyone,  and different religions are merging with other faiths to form a coexist movement.  It is like the world has gone crazy before our very eyes.  I can tell you that I am so happy that I belong to Jesus Christ in a world that is so lost.

As a Christian living in 2012 I feel honored that the Lord chose each one of us to live in these times.  He makes no mistakes and I got to thinking, what if each one of us shared Jesus with someone every week during this year?  We could share what Jesus has done in our life or invite them to church with us so that they would have the chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  The Lord could change the world!  As I was reading the Word where it talks about the Great Commission in Matthew 28 Jesus commanded us to go out in the world and share the Gospel with every nation.  For a very long time I thought we had to share the Gospel  with every person, but we don't.  I believe that every nation has been reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That got me very excited and then I felt the Holy spirit giving me a burden for sharing Jesus.

It will take a commitment from each one of us this year, to be doing our Father's work. I got this card from Harvest Ministries and I loved it so much I decided to make it my New Years Resolution.   Commit to read the Bible and spend time meditating on His Word each day (Joshua 1:8).  Commit to pray through out your day with a thankful heart just waiting to hear a word from the Lord (Psalms 55:17).  Commit to obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit and when the Lord speaks to us through His Word (Acts 5:29).  Commit to worship the Lord in public and private (Psalm 66:4).   Commit to Forgive others, extending grace to those who wronged you.  Remember that forgiveness is a choice (Ephesians 4:32).  Commit to Fellowship with other believers often (not just on Sunday's) for mutual encouragement, edification, and accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25).  Commit to Serve God by serving others - giving your time in ministry - with an eternal perspective (Mark 10:44-45).  Commit to value others by making relationships a priority.  Treat strangers as friends, friends as family and family as your treasures (Galatians 5:14).  and lastly Commit to share what Jesus Christ has done for you, and what He has done for them (Mark 16:15).

When I read all of those I thought whew that is some commitments to the Lord!!!!  How will I be able to do this.  I could put little reminders all over the house on post its about all of the wonderful things that Jesus has done for me and different scriptures that will help me to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ without stumbling.  I have to really want to do this.  Then I remembered the greatest gift that the Lord sent to us after Jesus ascended into Heaven.  He sent us His Holy spirit and each one of us who has accepted Jesus into our heart has the Holy Spirit living inside of us!! I can't think of anyone better to share Jesus through me.  I will just be still and allow Him to share the love of Jesus through me.  I know that He will equip me with everything I need.

When I was praying this weekend I though that I would like to be like David and be a woman after God's own heart.  I can't think of a better way to do that then to take care of His sheep.  If I get mocked or laughed at for sharing Jesus, I have to press on and not give up.  The funny thing about Christian women is we are strong.  When all of the Apostles ran away from Jesus except for John, the women never did.  They walked behind Him on His way to the cross, they were at the cross when He took on all of the sins of the world and then when he breathed His last breath as He died on that cross. They were the ones that made his body ready for burial and wrapped him in the burial cloths, and they were the ones that came to His tomb that first Sunday morning and found that He was not there.  He had Risen!!!

So I am going to challenge all of you mighty men and women of the Lord.  We are living in the last days and our primary concern should be to share the love and gift of salvation with as many people as we can. Lets really commit to it. Ask people to come to your churches and youth groups.  People are hungry for the truth. When we get to Heaven we all want to be able to face the Lord knowing that we had run a great race.  I love what Paul says in Timothy:
2 Timothy 4
12 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.
3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.
6 As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

Let us all keep our eyes eagerly looking for the Lord and His return  and keep busy doing His work here while we are waiting.  The harvest is great but the workers are few so lets all commit to being His light in this dark and dying world.  I don't know about you but This little light of mine I'm going to let it shine!  Let it shine!! Let it shine!! Let it shine!!!
